Hey all,

Well the Vice Presidential debate was last night, and I’m glad there will only be ONE.

Gov. Palin survived, and Senator Biden handled himself well.

Palin Biden

There were a lot of things that were said by Gov. Palin that I disagreed with (and her winks got annoying). But there was one exchange that gave me insight into the danger of this candidate.

She was asked about the office of Vice President being part of the Executive Branch of government or the Legislative Branch. Now, that may not sound like a big deal – except that Vice President Dick Cheney is involved in a law suit to prevent him from withholding or destroying records from his time in office (you can read about that HERE.) his Chief of Staff claims that the Vice President “belongs to neither the executive nor legislative branch of government, but rather is attached by the Constitution to Congress.”

So, if Vice President Cheney can successfully argue his way out of the Executive Branch of government, he can do what ever he likes with his papers….

Gov. Palin walked into the midst of this daunting question like a deer caught in the headlights.

Here is a transcript from that portion of last night’s debate:

Gwen Ifill: “Governor, you mentioned a moment ago the constitution might give the vice president more power than it has in the past. Do you believe as Vice President Cheney does, that the Executive Branch does not hold complete sway over the office of the vice presidency, that it it is also a member of the Legislative Branch?”

Gov. Palin: “Well, our founding fathers were very wise there in allowing through the Constitution much flexibility there in the office of the vice president. And we will do what is best for the American people in tapping into that position and ushering in an agenda that is supportive and cooperative with the president’s agenda in that position. Yeah, so I do agree with him that we have a lot of flexibility in there, and we’ll do what we have to do to administer very appropriately the plans that are needed for this nation. And it is my executive experience that is partly to be attributed to my pick as V.P. with McCain, not only as a governor, but earlier on as a mayor, as an oil and gas regulator, as a business owner. It is those years of experience on an executive level that will be put to good use in the White House also.”

Now of course she missed the true point of the question and went into some lame reasoning about why she would be a good executive, but it’s just that kind of issue – that she’s clueless about – that could someday wind us up in some serious trouble.

The McCain camp has a saying about Barack Obama but it really applies to Gov. Palin:

NOT READY TO LEAD!
